After a series of injuries, Kimmich called upon every available Bayern player to be ready for the UCL.

Bayern Munich continue to ride atop the Bundesliga after a victory against FC Augsburg on Friday. The win however, came with its caveats, namely the injury of Jamal Musiala. Joshua Kimmich was happy with the way his team fought back and gave his thoughts on the injury spree of Bayern.

FC Augsburg have been a tough opponent this season for many teams. Despite being in the 11th position, only four teams have conceded less goals than Augsburg 39 so far. And when you add in the fact that only three teams have scored less goals than Augsburg’s 31 , one thing becomes very clear. They have been fantastic at taking leads and fantastic at protecting their leads as well. Augsburg went into the Bayern game with a similar plan and took the lead with a goal in the 30th minute. Bayern however fought back well to score an equalizer before taking the lead in the second half. The game ended with a scoreline of 1-3 against xG figures of 0.39 vs 2.40 in favor of Bayern.

It comes as no surprise that Kimmich was pleased with the result and the confidence it brings before going into the packed April schedule. In the post-match interview( via @iMiaSanMia) he said “It was a fully deserved win. After we went behind, we stayed very calm, controlled the game even more, and were patient. Fortunately, we equalized before halftime. We didn’t concede any chances else in the second half.”

The international fixtures coupled with a loaded club schedule has seen Bayern lose players to injuries, the latest being Jamal Musiala. With the Champions League games against Inter in this month, Bayern will be without one of their best attackers for at least 6-8 weeks. Lamenting the state of medical affairs, Kimmich said “Jamal’s injury is obviously extremely disappointing. Everyone in the squad realizes they’re needed. Everyone has to work hard, wait for their chance, and everyone will get that chance. All the players have to be hungry and ready.”

Absolutely on point, the Bayern squad and whatever is remained untouched by the injury gods have to step-up. This year’s UCL is special as the final will be in Munich and lets hope for the best to come out of this dire situation.
