‘Calamitous’ – Andy Robertson nightmare moment sparks Liverpool collapse against Fulham

Andy Robertson will not want to watch Fulham’s second goal back.

The Liverpool left-back was at fault for Alex Iwobi’s strike thanks to a bizarre sequence of events.

First, the Scotland international had a complete brain fade as he attempted to pass the ball across the face of goal.

Instead, it landed squarely at the feet of Iwobi.

The Cottagers star tried to play in Rodrigo Muniz but his pass was blocked.

However, Liverpool struggled to clear their lines as Robertson’s attempt to head the ball away once again found the gracious feet of Iwobi.

Unfortunately for Robertson, the worst was yet to come.

Iwobi unleashed a strike at goal only for a deflection off of Robertson’s chest to take the ball past a helpless Caoimhin Kelleher and into the back of the net.

talkSPORT reporter Jake Robson described it as a ‘calamitous’ passage of play from Robertson.

Liverpool, who boasted the second-best defensive record in the Premier League going into Sunday’s clash, were yet again all over the shop for Fulham’s third.

This time it was skipper Virgil van Dijk at fault as he was out-muscled by Muniz, who lashed home a thumping strike past Kelleher.

“Again, it was calamitous stuff from Liverpool,” Robson said.

“Muniz gets the better of Van Dijk and he calmly slots it past Kelleher.”

Muniz’s strike also marked the first time Liverpool had shipped three goals in the first half of a Premier League contest since October 2020 when they conceded four en route to a 7-2 drubbing at the hands of Aston Villa.

Fulham’s three goals were the perfect answer to Alexis Mac Allister’s thumping opener.

The Argentinian midfielder picked up the ball just beyond the halfway line and drove towards goal before he unleashed a vicious strike from distance past Bernd Leno.

However, the Cottagers hit back nine minutes later through Ryan Sessegnon.

A cross from the right was floated in and found the leg of Curtis Jones, only for the ball to rebound directly in the path of Sessegnon inside the box as the former Tottenham player made no mistake.
