What makes the two work so well together?

There were questions when it became clear Bayern Munich were looking to sign Max Eberl from Rasenballsport Leipzig back in early 2024. After all, the club had signed Christoph Freund from Red Bull Salzburg just months prior, so why was the German needed? Even the eventual explanation that the two would share sporting duties was met with critique, considering that predecessor Hasan Sailhamidžić had never needed such a partner.

But, ever since Eberl’s arrival, the two have worked phenomenally together. The two’s work has gelled really well and there have been no signs of discordance or tension between the two-which seems to be a rarity at FC Hollywood these days.

Speaking in a recent interview, Freund detailed how the two work together and share their duties: “We’re working closely together and discussing the squad a lot, including with the coach. It’s about a long-term perspective,” the Austrian said, via @iMiaSanMia. “I’m more involved in the details, like day-to-day operations, the campus, and the staff. Max, among other things, takes care of the communication with the board and supervisory board. There are many tasks, and we divide them very well.”

How very interesting. Freund is more of the details guy. We did already know, of course, about Freund’s greater involvement at the campus but it seems that Eberl is more of the big picture guy than Freund. Let us see how far this dynamic duo can bring Bayern in the years to come.
