Alan Shearer has just made a worrying claim about Matheus Cunha at Wolves which could make interested clubs think twice about moving for him.

Arsenal are one of the clubs who have shown an interest in Cunha as Mikel Arteta looks to bring a new centre forward to North London.

The Gunners’ news sporting director Andrea Berta is keen on Cunha having also previously signed him during his Atletico Madrid.

However, Shearer’s latest claims about the Brazilian may deter the North London club from making a move for him in the summer transfer window.

Alan Shearer claims Wolves have been better without Matheus Cunha

Alan Shearer believes that Wolves have looked better without Matheus Cunha, as the 25-year-old is currently missing through suspension.

Shearer said on BBC Match of the Day: “The question was how were they going to get on with the four games without their best player, Cunha. Well, I actually think they’ve looked like a better team and the manager actually said it there.

Cunha, who has a £62.5 million release clause, was banned for four matches following his clash with Milos Kerkez in the FA Cup.

Wolves claimed a vital three points against Ipswich Town as they came from behind to win 2-1 at Portman Road without the striker.

TBR Football revealed last month that Nottingham Forest are ready to push hard for Cunha’s signature.

The former Premier League striker added: “Wolves have won three games and drawn one, so that tells you the answer to ‘what were they going to do without their best player?’”

Wolves’ record since Matheus Cunha’s suspension

The stats also back up Wolves being unfazed by the absence of Cunha, with no Premier League team taking more points than them since his ban.

Pos Team Games Wins Draws Losses
1 Wolves 4 3 1 0
2 Nottingham Forest 3 3 0 0
3 Arsenal 4 2 2 0
4 Aston Villa 3 2 1 0
5 Liverpool 3 2 1 0
6 Crystal Palace 3 2 1 0
Premier League table since Matheus Cunha’s suspension

Wolves have beaten Southampton, West Ham United and Ipswich Town which has significantly boosted their hopes of staying in the division.

Vitor Pereira’s side are now 12 points clear of the bottom three and their impressive form will have them believing they can start to climb the table.
