Inter Milan lineup vs. Bayern Munich: Predicted XI for Champions League quarter-final after Alessandro Bastoni scare

2 Min Read

Inter Milan head coach Simone Inzaghi has suffered an untimely defensive injury concern before Tuesday’s Champions League quarter-final first leg with Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.

The Nerazzurri blew a 2-0 lead in a 2-2 Serie A draw with Parma over the weekend, letting their advantage slip after key centre-back Alessandro Bastoni was withdrawn at half time due to a knee problem.

However, Bastoni is understood to be winning his race to be fit for the first leg, and even though he may not be at 100%, the 25-year-old will certainly reprise his role in defence if he is available.

Bastoni would join Yann Bisseck and Francesco Acerbi ahead of Yann Sommer in that scenario, but Benjamin Pavard and Stefan de Vrij are waiting in the wings if necessary.

Inzaghi will definitely be forced into a change in midfield, though, as Kristjan Asllani is suspended for an accumulation of yellow cards, so Davide Frattesi should enter the fray; another alternative, Piotr Zielinski, is out with a calf injury.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Hakan Calhanoglu will welcome Frattesi into the XI, while Federico Dimarco and Matteo Darmian – filling in for the injured Denzel Dumfries – continue out wide after combining for the opening goal against Parma.

Despite the visitors’ concerns in defence and midfield, the fearsome strike partnership of Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martinez – who have 35 goals between them this season – are fit and ready to roll up front.

Inter Milan possible starting lineup:
Sommer; Acerbi, Bisseck, Bastoni; Darmian, Calhanoglu, Frattesi, Mkhitaryan, Dimarco; Thuram, Martinez
