Liverpool may have three potential options in mind as it targets a new striker in the summer transfer window, which could provide a second chance to sign Alexander Isak.
The Reds are likely to be in the market for a new forward in the summer, regardless of what happens with Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian’s future remains up in the air, and should he depart at the end of his contract, Arne Slot will need to replace his remarkable output.
In any case though, it has become clear this season that Liverpool needs an upgrade on its current options in the No.9 role. Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz have all struggled for form at times, with the former looking a good bet to move on after three years on Merseyside.
Who comes in to replace him has been the subject of much speculation in recent months, with plenty of big names being linked. The most prominent has perhaps been Isak, who has been in sensational form this season.
The 25-year-old has 24 goals in all competitions, including what turned out to be the winner against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final. Isak is hot property at the moment, and his insistence that no talks have taken place over a new contract at Newcastle has drawn more attention over his future.

Sky Sports names him among three strikers being looked at by Liverpool ahead of the summer, although he won’t come cheaply. With Newcastle wanting to get him signed to a new deal, he is anticipated to cost over $129 million (£100M).
There could be an opportunity for the Reds to make up for passing up a previous opportunity to sign Isak though. The same report claims that Liverpool’s recruitment team wanted to sign the Swedish international in 2022, but Jurgen Klopp and Pep Lijnders pushed for Nunez instead.

Should Isak prove to be too expensive, then two other names are touted as potential alternatives. Victor Osimhen is suggested as a player that Liverpool “admired for some time”, with the 26-year-old set to on the market again in the summer when his loan at Fenerbahce ends.
It’s claimed that he’s not wanted by Antonio Conte back at Napoli, and Osimhen is also said to be keen to move to the Premier League. What’s more, his value should have dropped from $129M, given he has just a year left on his deal in Italy.
The third name said to be on Liverpool’s list is Benjamin Sesko, who is also linked with Arsenal. The RB Leipzig forward is another player that Liverpool has apparently tracked for some time, although it is suggested that he would be more of a risk than the other two at 22 years old.
