Remontada season.

Bayern Munich is reportedly open to a longer stay for midfielder Leon Goretzka.

Once out of favor this season, Goretzka has fought his way back into the plans of head coach Vincent Kompany — and earned his place again in Julian Nagelsmann’s Germany men’s national team as well. The midfielder has stepped up and impressed when called upon, with his determination after being frozen out of the lineup perhaps the most standout trait of them all.

Accordingly, even a new contract is not out of the question (his current one expires after next season). From kicker, as captured by @iMiaSanMia:

Leon Goretzka’s future is being reconsidered. Bayern bosses have acknowledged the way Goretzka cemented himself back in the starting lineup in recent weeks after he was dropped earlier in the season. There are still no concrete plans to extend Goretzka’s contract, but the prospect of further years at FC Bayern, which seemed hopeless a few months ago, is now a possibility [@georg_holzner, @kicker]

BFW Analysis

Bayern sure changes its mind a lot, doesn’t it? At least, if reports are to be believed.

Securing Goretzka for a few more years — at lower salary — is probably better than losing him outright on a free after one more season on his current contract. But the German international still turns 31 next February, and his game relies on his physical ability particularly in carrying the ball forward and attacking the box.

It will be interesting to see what happens in this case — particularly given the Bavarians are reportedly concerned about the wage bill. Goretzka is not likely to be sold in either case. So will it be one more year, or many, at FC Bayern?
