Aston Villa lineup vs. Paris Saint-Germain: Predicted XI for Champions League clash, as Emery makes Rashford call

Having reached the last eight of Europe’s top club competition for the first time in four decades, Aston Villa kick off their mouthwatering quarter-final tie with Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.

Though the Villans head for Parc des Princes on the back of a seventh straight win, Unai Emery is still expected to make several changes to his starting XI.

Winner of five trophies while in Paris from 2016 to 2018, Emery could recall Marcus Rashford in place of misfiring striker Ollie Watkins, who has gone off the boil of late.

Villa’s Basque boss must also decide whether PSG loanee Marco Asensio will start against his parent club, having scored eight goals in 11 games since swapping the French capital for Birmingham.

If retained, Asensio could be joined in the final third by captain John McGinn and standout star Morgan Rogers; however, Donyell Malen and Jacob Ramsey cannot be counted out either.

In addition to McGinn, England defender Ezri Konsa and midfield pivot Boubacar Kamara are both likely to regain their places: the latter is a boyhood Marseille fan, who needs no motivation to beat PSG on any occasion.

While Konsa will probably supplant Axel Disasi in central defence, he is also an option at right-back, where Matty Cash is also in contention to displace Andres Garcia.

Hopeful of making the bench, Leon Bailey has recently resumed full training, so Ross Barkley is the only player unavailable to Emery for the first leg.

Aston Villa possible starting lineup: Martinez; Cash, Konsa, Mings, Digne; Kamara, Tielemans; McGinn, Asensio, Rogers; Rashford
