Atletico Madrid Want To Sign Chelsea Youngster In The Summer: Should The Blues Sell Him?

Chelsea are battling tooth and nail to secure a top-four finish this season. However, there might be some summer departures already swirling. The squad’s depth is impressive, yet some players might be looking to swap clubs. Big names could wave goodbye while fringe stars might seek greener pastures for more minutes. The Blues’ transfer strategy has been bold under Todd Boehly, but if the Blues could sell deadwood, then they could free up funds for fresh talent. As the season races to its climax, Stamford Bridge might be bracing for an emotional exodus come summer.

Atletico Madrid Want Chelsea Player Andrey Santos

Fichajes has reported that Andrey Santos, the young Brazilian midfielder, might be packing his bags this summer as Atletico Madrid want to sign him. After shining at Vasco da Gama, he signed for Chelsea in early 2023, only to be loaned out—first to Nottingham Forest, where things fizzled, and now at Strasbourg.

He possesses the talent but Santos hasn’t cracked the Blues’ first team, and with Enzo Maresca eyeing a squad refresh, Chelsea could cash in for around €40 million. Diego Simeone sees the 20-year-old’s quality and energy as a perfect fit for his midfield revamp. But with other clubs lurking, Atletico’s pursuit won’t be a cakewalk.

Andrey Santos has scored 9 goals in 25 matches so far in the Ligue 1 2024/2025 season. Overall, his goals scored per 90 minutes is 0.36. Moreover, Santos’s total G/A (goals + assists) is 10 for this season. His goal involvement equates to 0.4 per 90 minutes. Santos’ non-penalty xG per 90 minutes is 0.29.

What should the Blues do?

Chelsea have got a tough call with Andrey Santos this summer. The player has got talent—his Vasco da Gama days proved that. However, he has barely sniffed the pitch at Stamford Bridge. With Atletico Madrid sniffing around and a €40 million price tag floating, I say cash in. The Blues are stacked in midfield, and Santos isn’t breaking through anytime soon. That money could fund a proven star or two, especially if they nick a top-four spot. Sure, Santos is young and promising, but Chelsea are not a waiting game. They need to win trophies now. Let him grow elsewhere and bank the profit. It will be smart business with a ruthless edge.
