New footage has emerged of Manchester United fans singing vile chants about Phil Foden’s mother during Sunday’s Manchester derby.
Foden, 24, was subjected to insulting chants from a section of home supporters during the 0-0 draw between Manchester United and Manchester City at Old Trafford.
After the match, City boss Pep Guardiola condemned the chants, saying: “Lack of class. But it’s not United, it’s the people, you know? We are so exposed in the screen in world football – managers, owners, and football players especially.
“Honestly, I don’t understand the mind of the people involving the mum of Phil, it’s a lack of integrity and class, and they should be ashamed…”
Foden took to social media after the match but did not mention the incident.
On Monday, Troy Deeney gave an interesting take on the situation and explained how he felt it has turned into a “bigger story than it needs to be”.
“It’s been made a bigger story because Pep’s brought it to everyone’s attention,” the former Watford captain explained when speaking on talkSPORT.
“Watching the game, I didn’t hear it. [On] Match of the day we didn’t do anything on it, unfortunately, it’s the ugly side of this football game.
“There’s an old saying many many years ago that Gianfranco Zola told me and it was ‘We’re paid to have no feelings’.”

Now new footage of the incident has emerged – via Mohsin.d10 – which appears to show Foden’s immediate reaction to the chants while he was stood in the penalty area.
The England international ironically seems to clap the United fans before raising his hands appearing to conduct the supporters who were verbally abusing him.
Foden has struggled to the replicate the form he experienced last season in recent months and has been heavily criticised for his performances for both England and City.
During the 2023/24 campaign, the 24-year-old was one of City’s shining lights having registered 27 goals and 13 assists in 53 appearances compared to just ten goals and six assists this term.
Guardiola also addressed the player’s recent performances in his post-match press conference.
“Phil, there is no doubt; I see every training the passion, the smile on his face,” he explained. “This is what I want… Of course, the impact has not been, but not [just] Phil. If you see the numbers in the last four, five, six years, many players are here in terms of goals and assists, this season we dropped incredibly, all of them, not just one, ALL of them. That’s why we’re struggling to create or win, but the quality is there.
“Sometimes in a long career you have seasons you are not – maybe last season he arrived at the peak in terms of the best player in the Premier League, he won the Premier League in the last games and his impact was incredible – and he will be back.”
