In a recent report, journalist Pete O’Rourke revealed that West Ham United are set to rival Everton for Sunderland midfielder Dan Neil. It is understood that the Hammers are showing interest in recruiting the English midfield ace this summer.

Neil’s Impressive Form In English Football This Season

Neil has enjoyed a decent campaign at the English club after putting in a run of impressive displays at the centre of their midfield. The 23-year-old has scored two goals and picked up three assists in 40 matches for Sunderland this season on all fronts.

The English talent has been a positive influence at both ends of the pitch based on his average of 2.0 tackles, 1.2 interceptions, 1.3 clearances, 0.6 shots, 0.7 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in the EFL Championship. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball from midfield, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 83.6% in league football (stats via whoscored).

Neil’s current deal at the Stadium of Light will run out in the summer of 2026 which could open the door for the Hammers to snap him up on the cheap later this year.

Will Neil Be A Good Option For West Ham United Boss Graham Potter?

Neil is a good tackler of the ball and can make some important interceptions for his team at the centre of the park. He usually clears his lines when needed and can shoot the ball well from long range.

The English sensation can create the odd chance for his teammates up top and is a decent dribbler with the ball. He mainly operates as a box-to-box midfielder but can also play as an attacking midfielder or serve as a defensive midfielder if asked to do so.

Neil would add more quality and depth to West Ham boss Graham Potter’s midfield. He is good enough to fight for a regular starting place at the London Stadium in the coming seasons.

At 23, the future looks quite bright for Neil as long as he continues to mature as a footballer. Thus, he would be a great option for West Ham head coach Graham Potter to pursue in the long run. However, only time will tell whether Neil can maintain his good form in the Premier League.
