By all accounts, Arsenal will attempt to take the summer transfer market by storm under Andrea Berta’s guidance.

Arsenal replaced Edu Gaspar with the former Atletico Madrid sporting director owing to his experience and reputation of being able to broker big deals in Europe.

Of course, that’s exactly what Arsenal need Berta to do in a few months’ time when the club will explore moves for more than one lofty target.

Berta has already held talks with Nico Williams’ camp, a forward who he believes could choose Arsenal this summer.

And along with a striker, Arsenal are also determined to land a winger who can elevate their forward options – an upgrade on Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard to put it bluntly.

Leroy Sane wants to stay at Bayern Munich despite Arsenal talks

That being said, Arsenal have shown interest in Leroy Sane, a familiar name to Premier League fans given all of his success with Manchester City.

The Bayern Munich winger, who joined for £55m back in 2020, is out of contract in the summer and could therefore be a very tempting option for Mikel Arteta given the two worked together at the Etihad.

However, German journalist Florian Plettenberg has now shared that Bayern are planning to offer a new contract to Sane – something that wasn’t always set in stone.

Sharing his update on X, the journalist also explained that Sane was ‘very eager to stay’, perhaps ending any idea of the winger heading to the Emirates Stadium.

Plettenberg wrote: “Max Eberl is planning a new contract for Leroy Sane. The board and supervisory board have been informed and are now open to it.

“The main reason: his performances have been increasingly convincing, and he is very eager to stay.

“A new deal until 2028 is being discussed. Sane is willing to accept the necessary salary reduction.

“Arsenal remain interested and have held fresh talks in recent days, but Sane’s focus remains on signing a contract extension.”

Mikel Arteta doesn’t need Leroy Sane

In truth, Arsenal might actually be better off dodging a deal for 29-year-old Sane.

Even ignoring the winger’s injury issues over the years, he predominantly thrives as a right-winger cutting onto his left foot.

And given that Ethan Nwaneri is now more than ready to provide back up to Bukayo Saka up on the right, there’s no room for Sane.

Nwaneri is set to sign a new contract at Arsenal to remain at the club long-term, and although Sane would still improve Arteta’s squad, the club should be targeting a right-footer for their left side.

And fortunately for Arsenal given their interest, Athletic Bilbao’s Williams does appear the perfect addition – a dynamic winger who’s right-footed and best on the left.
