After numerous rumors emerged regarding Kevin De Bruyne’s potential move to Inter Miami, coach Javier Mascherano shared his thoughts on the situation.
Kevin De Bruyne has sent shockwaves through MLS circles amid growing speculation that Inter Miami could be his next destination once his contract with Manchester City expires. With the rumors gaining traction, head coach Javier Mascherano has broken his silence on the potential move.
Following reports of De Bruyne’s likely departure this summer, Inter Miami quickly emerged as one of the frontrunners to land the Belgian midfielder. When asked about the situation, Mascherano responded with a composed and measured answer:
“I was lucky enough, as a player, to be part of very big clubs with a lot of media exposure, so I know everything that’s generated around clubs that are constantly in the spotlight. I focus on my players, on my team, and on what they work on with me day by day,” said Mascherano.
“Whatever is said outside, rumors and such, that’s not my place. I’m not the right person to confirm or deny rumors. I’m here to coach a team, prepare for matches, and try to win as many games as possible,” he added.
While reports continue to link De Bruyne to the MLS side, Mascherano refrained from commenting further—neither confirming nor denying interest—keeping the door open for a potential deal. With one Designated Player slot open following Leonardo Campana’s departure, Inter Miami still has the flexibility to make a marquee signing in the summer window.
De Bruyne reportedly leaning toward Inter Miami over San Diego
Earlier this year, San Diego FC appeared to be a serious contender to sign De Bruyne ahead of its inaugural MLS season. But with Designated Player spots already occupied by Hirving Lozano and Anders Dreyer, the expansion club is no longer in the race, according to The Athletic.
That development clears the path for Inter Miami. According to multiple reports—including ESPN and The Athletic—the Florida-based club currently holds De Bruyne’s MLS discovery rights, giving them the exclusive first option to negotiate a deal. If they choose to act, they could position themselves to add another global superstar alongside Lionel Messi this summer.
