Darwin Nunez leaves Liverpool fans baffled with bizarre social media message

We bet you didn’t have Darwin Nunez morphing into a Roman statue on your bingo card for this season.

The Liverpool striker isn’t enjoying the best of campaigns. Although he has had his moments, with his double to win the game at Brentford in January probably the highlight, Nunez has struggled to make any sort of impact as the Reds close in on the Premier League title.

The Uruguayan has scored just seven goals in 42 appearances, with Arne Slot seemingly preferring Diogo Jota as his No.9. Now coming to the end of his third season at Anfield, it seems likely that this may be his last with Liverpool.

Nunez has been heavily linked with a move away from Liverpool in the summer, with the Reds almost certainly looking to upgrade its options in attack, with a new striker high on the list of priorities.

The 25-year-old has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, with Liverpool said to have rejected bids for him during the January window. That interest has clearly not escaped Nunez’s attention, with the forward even making a joke come-and-get-me plea last month.

While speculation continues over his future, Nunez continues to struggle with Liverpool. He had to make do with another appearance from the bench during the Reds’ defeat to Fulham on Sunday, but he once again failed to make much of an impression.

Nunez though has responded by sending a defiant message on social media, posting: “It’s not about how many times I fall. It’s about how many times I rise,” on X.

The accompanying video has left supporters more than a little confused though. Along with the message, Nunez attached an AI-generated video which showed him celebrating some of his goals for club and country, all the while morphing into Ancient Roman-style statues.

Some fans showed their bemusement in the replies, with one simply saying: “You can’t be serious.” Another posted: “Please stop this pal. For all our sakes,” while another advised Nunez: “Delete before people see there’s still time.”

Liverpool.com says: Nunez is no stranger to making defiant gestures on social media. This is certainly among his strangest offerings though.

And he’s right, it is about how many times you rise. The problem is, he’s falling more often than he’s rising, and to be blunt, we just can’t see how he stays at Liverpool beyond this season. Bar a few memorable moments, his move to Anfield just hasn’t worked out.
