Kevin de Bruyne is departing Manchester City – after what seems like an absolute lifetime for the Cityzen’s.
De Bruyne will go down as an undeniable Premier League great. The Belgian is arguably in the best Premier League XI ever, having won pretty much everything there is to in English football.
Which is why replacing him will be no easy task. The Sky Blues need a creative midfielder to come and join the ranks at the Etihad in the summer.
The ever-reliable David Ornstein has revealed two names Pep Guardiola is already sniffing around at.
Man City want Florian Wirtz and Morgan Gibbs-White
Ornstein, via The Athletic, has reported that Man City are weighing up candidates to replace De Bruyne, with Florian Wirtz and Morgan Gibbs-White two names circulating.
Gibbs-White has been electric for Nottingham Forest this season, propelling them into the mix for Champions League places in the Premier League.
As for Wirtz, he’s highly regarded not just in Germany, but in world football as one of the best young midfielders on the planet.
Should they obtain either player – they’ll surely be a fine addition to Guardiola’s ranks.
Ornstein further states that now City’s new sporting director Andrea Berta is in the job – the search for a replacement is well and truly on.
How does De Bruyne compare to Wirtz and Gibbs-White?
This is how the trio compare this season so far:
Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City):
- Appearances: 20 Premier League matches this season.
- Goals: 2
- Assists: 6
Florian Wirtz (Bayer Leverkusen):
- Appearances: 39 in all competitions.
- Goals: 15
- Assists: 13
Morgan Gibbs-White (Nottingham Forest):
