An excellent win and performance. Check the highlights.
Germany continued its Women’s Nations League campaign with a blistering 4-0 win over Scotland on Friday.
Eintracht Frankfurt’s Elisa Senß got things started with a sensational goal from the edge of the box, lashed with ferocity into the top of the net. Not even a minute had passed since the opening whistle.
The situation got worst fast. In the 22nd minute, Bayern Munich’s Linda Dallmann fed VfL Wolfsburg’s Jule Brand into space on the right flank — Scotland stretched at the back and not nearly in position to cover the attack. Brand’s cross in found the leg of defenderr Sophie Howard, who turned it into her own net…returning the favor of Antonio Rüdiger at last summer’s EUROs.
Brand nearly scored again before the half was up but for a sensational trailing-foot save from Scotland keeper Lee Gibson.
In the second half though the fortunes did not turn. Dallmann again drove into space in transition, Scotland again at sixes and sevens. With her pick of options, Dallmann went left this time and found Cora Zicai (SC Freiburg), who sent a sensational curler that did not shine less brightly than Germany’s opener. Not two minutes later, Bayern’s Lea Schüller burst through the center-backs to get a one-on-one against the keeper, finishing clinically.
Bayern youngster Franziska Kett started in her national team debut and teammate Alara Șehitler made her second appearance.
Scotland had chances — and so did Bayern’s Gwinn, in the final seconds — to change the scoreline, but it ended 4-0 in favor of the Germans.
