It has been a season to forget for Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham side.
With injuries, poor form, and an increasingly disgruntled fan base as scrutiny towards the hierarchy intensifies.
Sitting 14th in the Premier League, Postecoglou’s situation has come with inevitable comparisons to that of Mikel Arteta’s first full season in 2020/21.
Now a title-challenging side, Arsenal were 15th in December of 2020, leading many fans to hope and believe that the under-pressure Spurs boss could replicate such a resurgence.
Tottenham set a club record for most Premier League defeats after 30 games (16) following the 1-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, begging the question, how long can Daniel Levy remain patient?
Harry Kewell backs Ange Postecoglou to succeed at Spurs
Despite the poor form in the league, former Liverpool and Leeds United star Harry Kewell insists Tottenham should stick by Ange, after enjoying a fruitful spell with him at Celtic.
Kewell praised his compatriots ability to manage young players, and allow them to express themselves in what is an ‘exciting’ style of play from Postecoglou.
“The way he plays the game, I love, just full-out attack and I would have loved to have played for him if I was 23.”
Kewell also referenced the Arteta comparison as he heaped massive praise on the Arsenal boss.
“He has done fantastic and he started off, even though he won the trophy, he started off with a bit of a poor run.
“He was allowed that time and now he has built a great squad he has been able to fulfil that and now he is pushing for titles, and I believe the same for Ange.”
Tottenham targeting possible Postecoglou replacement
As Tottenham look ahead to their Europa League tie against Frankfurt, the competition represents a final chance for Spurs, who are desperate to end their dire 17-year trophy drought.
However, as well as silverware and a return to Europe’s top division, the competition is seen by many fans to be Ange’s last hope in keeping his job as Tottenham manager.
According to TalkSport, Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola would be their number 1 target.
However, fellow Premier League managers Marco Silva and Thomas Frank have also been identified as potential targets.
Despite Frankfurt’s defeat to Werder Bremen in their last league game, Ange will be wary of the threat the German side 3rd in the Bundesliga will pose, as a tricky tie looks to be on the Horizon.
