Liverpool squad payslips ‘leaked’ and highlights incredible worth of Mo Salah and others

An old Liverpool squad payslip has emerged online, and it shows exactly how much the team value star players like Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.

Since the formation of the club all the way back in 1892, Liverpool have welcomed some of the best players in the history of the English top flight, including the likes of Steven Gerrard, Kenny Dalglish, Luis Suarez and, more recently, Salah and Van DIjk.

In the modern game, players of this level could take home weekly salaries upwards of £250,000, making them some of the best paid athletes in the world.

But this isn’t the case for all players at the club, as proved by an old payslip revealing the salaries of the entire squad that was once leaked online.

Before the formation of the Premier League in 1992, many players competing in England’s First Division still needed second or even third jobs in order to make ends meet and support themselves as they pursued a career in football.

This was especially true for players competing further down the football pyramid in England, as seen in a shocking Liverpool squad payslip which dates all the way back to August 1960, when the Reds were playing in the Second Division.

Writing on X, legendary Liverpool striker John Aldridge revealed a payslip from his time at the club, posting am image of the document as evidence.

Despite the fact that several big names are included in the list, including Roger Hunt who won the 1966 World Cup with England, the players were earning far less than the astounding amounts that we see today, with the biggest earners taking home £23 a week – around £663 in today’s money.

Some players were also awarded the luxury of a £4 bonus, adding around £115 to their weekly wage if they did enough to achieve it.

Legendary coach Bob Paisley, who is now regarded as one of the club’s greatest-ever managers, took home £17 (around £490 today), while his eventual successor Joe Fagan received £16 (£461) per week.

Comparatively, according to Capology, Liverpool’s lowest earner in 2025 is 21-year-old reserve player Luca Stephenson who has a £400 weekly salary, while Salah is the club’s biggest earner taking home £350,000 a week.

Meanwhile, a report from Dutch publication De Telegraaf claims that current manager Arne Slot earns a basic wage of €8 million per year, which works out at around £127,000 per week.
