Man United lineup vs. Lyon: Predicted XI for Europa League quarter-final first-leg tie

Manchester United could be without up to six players for Thursday’s Europa League quarter-final first-leg clash with Lyon at Groupama Stadium.

Lisandro Martinez (knee), Amad Diallo, Ayden Heaven (both ankle) and Jonny Evans (back) all remain sidelined with injuries, while Matthijs de Ligt (ankle) and Kobbie Mainoo (calf) will both be assessed ahead of kickoff, the latter of whom has returned to training.

Luke Shaw returned to the matchday squad for the first time in 2025 for the dull 0-0 Manchester derby draw at Old Trafford on Sunday. The left-back could be involved again on Thursday, but Patrick Dorgu is expected to continue at left wing-back, with Diogo Dalot operating on the opposite flank.

Despite coming off on the hour mark last time out, Harry Maguire has not picked up an injury according to head coach Ruben Amorim and he will be in contention to start again in the back three alongside Noussair Mazraoui and Leny Yoro, while Victor Lindelof is another defence option available for selection.

Mason Mount is another in contention to feature, but he is likely to begin as a substitute once again, with Manuel Ugarte and Casemiro linking arms in centre-midfield as captain Bruno Fernandes – who scored a superb hat-trick in the 4-1 last-16 second-leg win over Real Sociedad last month – continues in an advanced role.

Alejandro Garnacho is expected to retain his spot in the final third, even though he has scored just one goal in his last 27 appearances for Man United, while Amorim will weigh up whether to stick with Rasmus Hojlund up front or recall Joshua Zirkzee.

Manchester United possible starting lineup: Onana; Mazraoui, Maguire, Yoro; Dalot, Ugarte, Casemiro, Dorgu; Fernandes, Garnacho; Zirkzee
