Report: Bayern Munich eager to extend Konrad Laimer past 2027

Is Laimer Vincent Kompany’s long-term plan for right-back?

Since Joshua Kimmich deputised the right-back position so impressively for Bayern Munich, The Bavarians have had a slew of players who have been unable to lock down the position for themselves.

This season, there were hopes that Sacha Boey would finally live up to his €30 million transfer fee, however, another injury plagued season has so far prevented the Frenchman from making any significant impact.

In stark contrast, Boey’s woes have been Konrad Laimer’s gain.

Laimer, a midfielder by nature, has been Bayern’s answer to plug the hole at right-back and it seems like the former RB Leipzig man could be sticking around for the long haul, as Tobi Altschäffl and Christian Falk suggest (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).

Bayern are planning to extend Konrad Laimer’s contract beyond 2027. Talks are not advanced yet and an extension is not imminent, but the exchange between the player and the club is very good. Bayern are very happy with Laimer.

The 27-year-old Austrian has featured 29 times at right-back for Bayern this season and while he hasn’t exactly set the world alight, he also has not been bad by any means.

Considering Bayern also have Josip Stanišić on the books, it remains to be seen whether Laimer is Bayern’s long-term solution to the right-back position, but one can be fairly certain the club values the Austrian’s versatility.
