Rio Ferdinand has named the four superstars that he would sign to transform Manchester United ahead of the new season.

The Red Devils are preparing for their first summer transfer window under the leadership of Ruben Amorim who will be desperate to put his stamp on the current squad at Old Trafford.

Man United are currently 13th in the Premier League and in desperate need of quality reinforcements, something that Gary Neville agreed with during his appearance on Sky Sports at the weekend.

He said: “They need five players.

“They need to serve him with five players who are good enough in this system to be able to play his system the way he wants.”

That sentiment was echoed by his former Red Devils’ teammate Ferdinand who went one step further and named the players that he’d be breaking the bank to bring to Old Trafford this summer.

Speaking on his Rio Ferdinand Present channel, he said: “I agree with Gary Neville that they need five players, I think they need four or five players but they will be constrained by PSR.

“I want a centre midfielder to play alongside (Manuel) Ugarte, that player needs to be able to take the ball and transfer it through to Bruno and the strikers.

“And you know who I’d go for? Adam Wharton.”

The Crystal Palace star joined from Blackburn for £22million just over a year ago, but it’s been suggested that he could now cost around £70million with Real Madrid also linked.

Ferdinand then explained that that Man United need at least one forward.

This is to compete with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee who have both managed just three goals this term.

Asked who he’d sign, Ferdinand said: “[Victor] Osimhen.

“And I know, sorry Napoli and Galatasaray, if i’m Man United, Osimhen comes to Man United next year, I’m making it happen.

“Another one I’d go and buy is Cunha.

“He’s made it clear that he wants to leave so I’d go and get Cunha.”

Osimhen has a hefty release clause worth £65million with Napoli likely to command a big fee to sell the star who is currently on loan with Galatasaray.

As for Cunha, he is widely expected to move on this summer after admitting he needs to ‘take the next step’ in his career, despite signing a contract with Wolves in January.

With a £62.5million release clause, talkSPORT understands that Man United are interested in the forward, but could face competition from Arsenal and Nottingham Forest.

Ferdinand then added that he was be looking to sign a right-back this summer, with one Bayer Leverkusen star being the prime candidate.

“You know who else I’d go and get? [Jeremie] Frimpong at right wing back.”

Frimpong joined Bayer Leverkusen from Celtic and has since established himself as one of the top wing-backs in world football.

The defender had a £33.5million release clause in his deal that expired last summer, however he’s likely to be worth more than that now.

Man United’s hopes of signing the four players could hinge on their aspirations of playing European football next term.

Sitting 13th in the Premier League, it seems unlikely that they’ll qualify through the league, meaning that success in the Europa League could be their only route into continental competition.
