Bild spills the deets on the secrets behind Kompany’s locker room leadership.
Just how much does Bild know about how the Bayern Munich locker room feels about their succession of head coaches?
Pretty much everything, if their reports are to be believed. Of course, it is no secret that Vincent Kompany is a beloved figure at the club currently. A Bild report from mid-March, however, goes in depth as to why — and what distinguishes the former Manchester City defender from the two previous men to hold the job, Thomas Tuchel and Julian Nagelsmann.
Via @iMiaSanMia:
Vincent Kompany is enjoying a higher standing with his players than that of his predecessors Thomas Tuchel and Julian Nagelsmann. The players appreciate that Kompany only criticizes them individually internally, but never publicly. The Belgian always stands up for his team. That was different under the previous coaches. Tuchel often explained the errors so precisely that, in the end, the player responsible was clear to everyone listening. Nagelsmann’s comments usually gave the team the feeling that winning is always achieved as a team, the coach and the team, and that defeats are solely the fault of the players. As former captain of Manchester City, Kompany is fully aware of the importance of not allowing the group to be divided by mutual misconduct [@altobelli13, @cfbayern]
Tuchel and Nagelsmann are now at the England and Germany posts, respectively, and both have linked up again with former Bayern players as a result. Maybe they’ve changed…or maybe they haven’t. Or maybe it was never like this. Regardless, it seems like all three teams — England, Bayern, and Germany — feel pretty good about their head coaches at the moment.
