Odegaard was quizzed his thoughts on some of the best captains to have ever graced the Premier League, which included Gerrard, Tony Adams, Roy Keane and John Terry.
Adams emerged as Odegaard’s pick as the standout skipper amongst the aforementioned names but the silky technician revealed that he idolised Steven Gerrard and raved about how complete the Liverpool legend was as a player.
The 26-year-old told Sky Sports: “Well, to me, Steven Gerrard was someone I really looked up to as a young kid.”
“He was a big legend, he played in my position and I really, really liked the way he played and the way he could influence the game is so complete, he can do anything, he can run all over the pitch, he can go down for a tackle, he can score a goal so yeah, he was someone I really looked up to.”

However, Gerrard broke into Liverpool’s first-team as a teenager and he was at a different stage of his career to Odegaard, who had plenty of experience under his belt when he moved to Arsenal.
