Should Thomas Müller have started for Bayern Munich?
Bayern Munich star Thomas Müller scored his team’s lone goal during a 2-1 loss to Inter Milan in the Champions League, but some fans were left puzzled by head coach Vincent Kompany’s decision to keep the 35-year-old on the bench to start.
Müller, though, was not sweating it and does not want the situation to become a distraction.
“Of course I’d be happy to start. Everyone enjoys playing. Nevertheless, we also need players who can come off the bench and decide games or help steer the team in the right direction. Everyone has their role, which the coach defines before each game, and he does so with the utmost knowledge and awareness,” told Bild via @iMiaSanMia. “Especially for me, it’s important that I radiate that now, that this is about the bigger picture. It doesn’t feel like I’m on some kind of farewell tour, but rather we’re in the middle of the action here, and that’s how we act, and that’s how I feel.”
Müller continues to do and say all of the right things, despite what some would consider disrespectful treatment of late from the club executive (and maybe the coaching staff today).
With statements like he just made, it sure does seem like the venerable veteran is prepping for a role of his own in the front office at some point.
