Arsenal outclassed Real Madrid in the first-leg of their Champions League quarter-final clash.
The Galacticos haven’t had their greatest season. They have suffered a few big defeats already, and the Gunners added another one to the list.
Declan Rice scored two stunning free-kicks before Mikel Merino found the net to give Arsenal a massive 3-0 advantage heading into the second leg.
Before the game on Tuesday night, however, Jude Bellingham and Real Madrid were confident of getting a win at the Emirates Stadium.
What Jude Bellingham told Raul Asencio about the Emirates Stadium pitch
Bellingham is one of Real Madrid’s best players.
The Englishman joined the Galacticos from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2023 and had an unbelievable debut season there.
Bellingham is having a good campaign this time too, but on Tuesday night, he couldn’t do much against Arsenal.
Before the game, however, the England international seemed impressed with the Emirates Stadium.
Defensa Central claim that along with centre-back Raul Asencio, Bellingham walked onto the ground to inspect the condition of the pitch.
Having played at the new Santiago Bernabeu, the midfielder is used to high standards, and it looked like he was really pleased with the pitch at Arsenal’s home as well.
The report claims that after having a feel, Bellingham turned to Asencio and said: “It looks like a carpet, it’s very good.”
Arsenal fans also call the Emirates Stadium ‘The Carpet’, so we’re sure they will be delighted to hear Bellingham say the same.
Bellingham’s post-match admission proves Arsenal battered Real Madrid
Arsenal were undoubtedly the better team against Real Madrid on Tuesday night.
Yes, Carlo Ancelotti’s side had a couple of chances after early mistakes from the Gunners, but nobody can deny that Mikel Arteta’s men deserved to win the game.
Bellingham admitted that too after his side’s defeat and claimed that Real Madrid were ‘lucky’ to have not conceded more goals.
“I know two of their goals were free kicks and really good pieces of individual delivery, but they could have had way more,” he said after the game.
“We’re lucky to get away with three.”
3-0 is a huge lead, and more often than not, you would think that it’s done. But, Real Madrid have achieved great things at the Santiago Bernabeu, which is why Arteta and Arsenal should take the second leg as seriously as they took the first.
