Dietmar Hamann has given his verdict on two players linked with moves to Liverpool and said he doesn’t feel Jeremie Frimpong or Matheus Cunha would be a good fit for the Reds.
Cunha has openly admitted he would like to leave Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer, although did row back on those comments a few days later. As for Frimpong, Liverpool.com reported last month that the club holds a genuine interest in the player and would consider a move for the Dutchman should Trent Alexander-Arnold move at the end of the season.
Frimpong is expected to leave Bayer Leverkusen, regardless of whether he ends up at Liverpool, and has a €40million buyout clause in his contract (£33M/$44M). However, Hamann questions whether he would fit Slot’s style of play.
“Jeremie Frimpong had a release clause of £40million last summer and I was surprised that nobody took it,” the ex-midfielder told besteonlinecasinonederland. “I don’t think he is an out-and-out right-back because he plays on the right hand side when there are three at the back.
“He has a bit of protection there because he likes to go forward, his biggest strength is his pace and setting up and scoring goals. Because of that I don’t see him as the perfect fit at right-back. Liverpool already has Conor Bradley, they have a player there who has done really well. If Mohamed Salah stays then he will be hugging the touchline in his best position, so I can’t see Frimpong there at the moment.”
As for Cunha, Hamann questions the player’s temperament. The Brazilian has severed two bans this season following clashes with Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez and a member of staff at Ipswich Town which have resulted in him missing six games in total.
“When you play for a big club, you have to be ready to perform every three days because you can play six times in a month,” said Hamann, a member of Liverpool’s 2005 Champions League-winning squad.

“He was at RB Leipzig and then Hertha Berlin where he didn’t do that. I think we’ve now seen with Matheus Cunha that discipline is an issue. In footballing terms, he is as talented as anyone and is a brilliant player with great finishing ability.
“I thought things would be tough in England but he looks a completely different player to the inconsistency we saw in Germany. Having said that, when it comes to big clubs, they will be put off to see him watching from the stands.”
