Former Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic has brutally hit out at a current member of Ruben Amorim’s squad, and fans are stunned.
United will look to keep their dreams of winning a trophy this season alive as they travel to the Groupama Stadium to face Lyon in the Europa League quarter finals on Thursday.
The Europa League also provided United with their only remaining opportunity of getting European football next season, making Thursday’s match perhaps the most important of Amorim’s tenure at the club.
Ahead of the game, players from both teams have spoken to the media, and when doing so, former United player Matic has taken a brutal dig at a current starting player.
In the build up to the Europa League clash, United goalkeeper Andre Onana told the press that he anticipated a tough game against Lyon, but on paper United were a better side.
And when asked to respond to this comment by respected journalist Simon Peach, Matic, who currently plays for Lyon, did not hold back.
“If you are one of the worst goalkeepers in Man United history, you need to take care what you’re talking about,” claimed the 36-year-old.
“If David de Gea or Peter Schmeichel or Van der Sar said that then I would question myself.
“But if you are statistical one of the worst goalkeeper’s in Man United’s modern history then, he needs to show that before he says anything. We shall see.”
Reacting to the comments, one fan wrote: “Nemanja Matic cooked. I love this new era of press conferences, players, coaches show no mercy.”
While one added: “No way. Did Matic really say this. There’s no way Onana is coming back from this.”
And one agreed with Matic, writing: “Onana talks too much. So far, he’s one of the worst or perhaps the worst in the history of the club.”
