The director stays on to witness the transition
Germany’s national team has been witnessing a new era in the last year or so, with legends retiring, and youngsters joining. Rudi Völler, the director of the national team, has decided to extend his contract until 2028 to oversee this new transition.
As announced on DFB’s official X account, Völler will remain in his position until the Euros in 2028, giving him a total of five years in the position after signing on in 2023. Völler also managed the squad for one game as interim manager, when former Bayern Munich coaches Hansi Flick was let go and Julian Nagelsmann was hired, and so the director has plenty of hands-on experience.
Nagelsmann also signed a new contract, pretty much securing his role until 2028 too, meaning that the two will work hand in hand for the upcoming World Cup as well as the Euros. Völler was more than happy to sign on, but has high goals for the squad.
“The national team and the entire DFB team have grown close to my heart. Of course, the exciting Euros at home, but above all the collaboration with Julian Nagelsmann, played a decisive role in that. I’m very much looking forward to continuing the path we’ve taken with Julian and his team until the next EUROs – the path back to sporting success and into the hearts of the fans in Germany,” said Völler. “We’ve already made great progress. But we’re not yet where we want to be. We have the highest standards and goals and believe we can achieve them with this inspiring team.”
Fans will be excited to see the direction Rudi Völler will take the team, but seem to have confidence.
