A bad result in a drama and injury laden week for Bayern.
Bayern Munich seemed to have the better of Inter Milan in the Champions League for the majority of the game, however, the Nerazzurri managed to walk away 2-1 winners as a result of their efficiency on the counter and in front of goal.
Efficiency in front of goal would sadly not be a good way to sum up Bayern’s evening against an unforgiving Inter defence.
Bayern had a fantastic chance to go 1-0 up in the first half as the ball fell to the usually clinical Harry Kane; however, this time the Englishman would fail to hit the back of the net, striking the upright instead.
Thomas Müller, the Bavarian’s goalscorer and centre piece to a drama filled week, touched on Bayern’s wasted opportunities following the final whistle.
“We unfortunately missed a big chance in the first half with Harry, that would’ve given us a different feeling. Inter have good players with the ball who are able to take the pace off the game and slow it down, then play long balls to their strikers. They have experienced and physical players – it wasn’t a walk in the park and we didn’t expect it to be. We created chances in the second half but unfortunately couldn’t convert them,” Müller lamented (via @iMiaSanMia).
While Bayern missed some good opportunities, Müller managed to hit the mark in the 85th minute goal. Although, the joy was short lived as Inter found a reply just three minutes later following a lapse of concentration in the defence.
However, the 35-year-old attacker still believes it’s all to play for.
“We tried to come back, we managed to do that, then conceded a goal from a counter where we should’ve done better,” said the Raumdeuter (via @iMiaSanMia). “We had imagined a different outcome here today, but it’s only half time. We know there’s still a lot possible.”
Bayern certainly have their work cut out for them when they head to the Giuseppe Meazza next week, but despite the one goal deficit, “there’s still a lot possible.”
