When it comes to centre-backs, Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk sets the gold standard.
The Reds’ captain has been one of the best signings in the Merseyside club’s history since arriving from Southampton in 2018 and is currently regarded by many as the best central defender in the world.
Van Dijk will go down as a Premier League great and many up-and-coming centre-backs look up to the 33-year-old, as the Dutch star is a perfect player to model their games on.
Man United’s Leny Yoro will certainly be one of those as the French star has been thrown into the fire at just 19 years old at Old Trafford and will have learned so much during his first year in Manchester.
The defender is already showing signs of what he could be in the future as he has already started the journey to try and break a famous Van Dijk record.

Leny Yoro hasn’t been dribbled past in 12 games
Liverpool were one of the clubs interested in Yoro last summer as it became clear that the youngster would leave Lille. However, Man United would win the race having gone all in on the young defender.
The Red Devils view the 19-year-old as the future of their defence and after a tough start at Old Trafford due to injury, the Manchester outfit are starting to see why they invested so much in the French talent.
Having missed the entire start of the 2024/25 campaign, Yoro has featured in 23 games for Man United this season and has started in eight of the last nine Premier League games he has been available for.
An impressive stat has emerged from the youngster’s recent run of games as Yoro has not been dribbled past in 12 consecutive matches after United’s 0-0 draw with Man City on Sunday.
This may be a sign of things to come as it is clear that Yoro is thriving in Ruben Amorim’s system, which uses three at the back.
Man United will hope to invest in the position this summer and with better players around him, Yoro may even start to chase down Van Dijk’s impressive record.
Virgil van Dijk had a ridiculous dribbled past record
Van Dijk has been an integral part of Liverpool’s success ever since his arrival in 2018 and the Dutch star made that clear from the get-go.
The centre-back was not dribbled past in his first full season at Liverpool, going the entire 2018/19 campaign without being beaten one-on-one, a run that spanned 50 games.
There is even a discussion that the streak expands to 65 games, which was eventually broken by Gabriel Jesus when Man City took on Liverpool in the 2019 Community Shield final.
Yoro has a long way to go before he reaches that number and is every unlikely to beat it, nevertheless, the signs are positive for Man United fans that they have not wasted their money on the French talent.
