The Gunners are enjoying a bright season and are heavy favourites to reach the Champions League semi-finals.

However, Arsenal will want to ensure they can compete on multiple fronts and mount a stronger Premier League title challenge next term.

Although new strikers and midfielders are set to be high on Arsenal’s agenda, there’s always scope for defensive reinforcements too.

Arsenal have been heavily linked with Dean Huijsen in recent weeks and David Ornstein has now shared an update involving the Gunners and the Bournemouth star.

David Ornstein believes Arsenal duo Mikel Arteta and Andrea Berta are huge fans of Dean Huijsen

Ornstein hosted his latest Q&A on The Athletic on Thursday, with fans asking him a wide variety of questions about a number of clubs in England and elsewhere.

A Liverpool fan asked him whether the Reds were looking at any centre-backs this summer, and he named Huijsen, though there’s a lot of competition.

Ornstein noted how a host of Premier League clubs have been in contact with Huijsen’s camp over the past week, before touching upon the interest from Arsenal.

On the subject of where Huijsen would fit in at N5, he said: “Arsenal is a bit trickier with (William) Saliba and Gabriel in situ for now.

“But if (Jakub) Kiwior was to be sold you could envisage Huijsen playing a lot as part of their centre-back unit.

“And from what I hear Mikel Arteta and Andrea Berta are huge fans of the Spain international.”

What Dean Huijsen could bring to Arsenal

At just 19 years of age, Huijsen has already made 29 appearances for Bournemouth and he has shown he has what it takes to thrive at the highest level.

Huijsen is a modern-day centre-back who excels in both defending and moving the ball up the pitch.

In addition, the Spain international shines in aerial duels, interceptions, and is a forward-thinking passer.

Huijsen is also a goalscoring threat who is great in the opposition box, and also has the character to thrive at the highest level.

“His physical and technical attributes were obvious at Malaga,” Juan Jesus Gutierrez Robles, his former coach in Malaga’s U16s, told Sky Sports in March.

“But what stood out most about him most to me was the determination and ambition he had about being a footballer.

“I had rarely seen that level of determination in a player.

“It is not just that he wants it, it is that he has done absolutely everything he can to achieve it.

“He trains better than anyone, he prepares better than anyone, he corrects his mistakes better than anyone.”
