Liverpool fans have had their say after the club posted a photograph and a video of Trent Alexander-Arnold to its official social media pages.
Alexander-Arnold, 26, has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid upon the expiration of his contract at the end of June, with recent reports suggesting that he is close to finalising a five-year deal at the 15-time Champions League winners – although neither club has issued an official update on the situation at this time.
The England right-back has not featured since Liverpool’s Champions League quarter-final defeat against PSG on March 11 due to an ankle injury.
However, the defender will be hoping to return to action before the end of the campaign with his side looking likely to lift their 20th top-flight crown.
On Thursday (April 10), supporters had their say after the club posted a photograph and a video of what appeared to be Alexander-Arnold reporting to training and taking part in a promotional campaign on Instagram and X.
One said: “Why you posting Trent???? Come on lads!! Get with the picture!!”
Another added: “Would probably watch this if HE wasn’t in it.”
A third explained: “Get him of the channel please.”
While a fourth added: “Stop making video with Trent please.”
Former Liverpool centre-back Jamie Carragher explained how Liverpool fans see Alexander-Arnold when speaking to Sky Sports last Sunday.
“Liverpool supporters will be appreciative of what Trent has done on the pitch,” said Carragher. “It will taint his legacy in some people’s eyes. When you think of players that played their whole career at the club and turned down opportunities to go elsewhere, that makes you, in the supporters’ eyes, one of them.
“He came through the academy, and very few players do that, he’s won everything to win, and he’s been a brilliant player for Liverpool. If he goes, of course I’ll be disappointed but I hope it goes well for him.”
And Alexander-Arnold is not the only Liverpool player who could leave for free this summer.
Key men Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk find themselves in the same situation as their contracts approach expiration.
Van Dijk, 33, discussed the matter after Liverpool’s 3-2 Premier League defeat against Fulham last Sunday.
“There is progress,” said the Liverpool centre-back.
“These are internal discussions and we’ll see. I love the club.”
As for Salah, 32, he has been fairly vocal about his future throughout the course of the 2024/25 season, during which he has scored 27 league goals. But it has been reported by BBC Sport, that the 32-year-old is in “advanced negotiations” over a new deal.
