PSG have proven themselves to be an opponent to be feared in the Champions League this season, as their young and exciting talent spark up the competition.

After already defeating Premier League table toppers Liverpool, they look set to progress in this year’s Champions League after the Parisians came out flying in their first leg 3-1 victory against Aston Villa.

Luis Enrique now looks ahead to sealing qualification in PSG’s return leg at Villa Park, as a semi-final tie against Arsenal or Real Madrid looms for the Spaniard.

The former Barcelona manager has every reason to be optimistic given the form of young talents Desire Doue, Joao Neves, and a certain Portuguese talent who was playing second fiddle in the Premier League just a few seasons ago.

Prince Williams praises PSG star Vitinha

Royalty was present at the Parc De Princes, and Aston Villa fan Prince William gave his thoughts on PSG midfielder Vitinha

He said: Vitinha in the midfield, I have been really impressed by.

“Bearing in mind he was at Wolves 2/3 years ago maybe? And he could hardly get a game and now look at him.

“And it shows you, a couple of years in development terms? Massive, I think given the opportunity and backed by the right manager, you go places.”

In what has been a season to remember for the Portuguese international, he boasts some impressive stats.

He leads the way with the most touches in a Champions League match this season with a staggering 164, as well as completing the most passes (148) and most final third passes (65) in a single match this season.

Why didn’t Wolves sign Vitinha?

The PSG superstar had a season loan spell at Wolves in 2020/21 where he joined from Portuguese side Porto. Despite making 17 appearances, the midfielder would only manage to make five starts in black and gold.

At the end of the loan, Wolves were presented with an option to buy him permanently for £17m but weren’t keen on retaining the Portuguese star and he would return to parent club Porto.

After impressing back in his homeland, Vitinha would be linked with Arsenal before securing a big-money move to PSG in 2022.

In 2021 The Athletic reported that Vitinha wasn’t signed by Wolves for two reasons, one being that the club were not blown away by his performances, the second being that Wolves were looking in the market for alternatives in his position at the time.

Fast forward to 2025, and the creative midfield genius is one of the most highly rated in Europe, delivering at the biggest stage, and for Wolves, the one that got away.
