This summer is set to be a busy one at Liverpool.
The Reds currently sit at the top of the Premier League with an 11-point advantage and in order to maintain that, Arne Slot will look to invest ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Darwin Nunez has struggled at Liverpool and is one star that is expected to leave the Merseyside club this summer, which will result in the Reds needing a new number nine.
With Trent Alexander-Arnold set to join Real Madrid, a right-back may also be on the agenda, which will add to the need for a left-back in Slot’s squad due to Andy Robertson’s struggles this season.
The Reds tried to bring in a midfielder last summer as Liverpool made a move for Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi, however, the Euro 2024 would turn down a move to Anfield.
A new report has linked Liverpool to one of their old targets, a player Jurgen Klopp would have loved to have had when the German was coach of the Merseyside club.
Liverpool target Nicolo Barella will cost £100m
Liverpool have held a long-term interest in Nicolo Barella, but the midfielder has not had the urge to leave Inter Milan permanently since joining the Italian giants from Cagliari back in 2020.
The 28-year-old has gone on to feature in 276 matches for the Nerazzurri, producing 25 goals and 59 assists, and the Italian remains a very important player in Milan.
Barella’s performances this season have seen interest remain in the Inter star and according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Liverpool are still targeting a move for the Italian star.
The report states that the Merseyside club are pushing for the 28-year-old more than any other club, however, a deal for the Inter star could cost the Reds around £100m as the Italian star is playing better than he ever has, while also having a contract at the San Siro until 2029.
Al Hilal are another club who have Barella on their list and will try to lure the player to Saudi Arabia this summer by offering him a huge financial package with a salary of £30m (€35m) being reported.
Man City have shown interest in Barella in the past, but it is unclear whether Pep Guardiola still wants the 28-year-old at the Etihad having signed Nico Gonzalez in January.
It remains to be seen if Liverpool make a move for Barella this summer, although that is something Klopp would have loved during his time at the Merseyside club.
Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of Barella
Liverpool underwent a revamp in midfield during the summer of 2023 and Barella would certainly have been on the Reds’ list as the Italian was strongly admired by Klopp.
Ahead of facing Inter in the Champions League Round of 16 back in 2022, Klopp made his admiration for Barella to the press clear, with the German stating that the midfielder was a “top-class player”.
“He’s a really good player, a really good player and I like him a lot,” Klopp said about the Italian midfielder. “He has all the things you want from a midfield player. He is aggressive, he is technical, he can run for ages and all these kinds of things. That’s a top-class player.”
Barella would have been a great addition to Liverpool’s squad back then; however, with the emergence of Ryan Gravenberch this season, the Inter star will not be a necessity this summer for the Reds.
