With each passing week, the idea that Trent Alexander-Arnold will be in a Liverpool shirt next season drifts further out of reach.
Though there seems to be progress with the deals of Mohamed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk, it looks increasingly likely that Alexander-Arnold will be off to Madrid come the summer window.
The news has not gone down too well, with many Liverpool fans upset with the Scouser’s decision.
But if that wasn’t bad enough, Liverpool fans, another star of this title-winning side may also have his head turned by the biggest club in world football.
Ryan Gravenberch’s agent hints at Real Madrid move
In an interview with Marca, Gravenberch’s agent Jose Fortes discussed the prospect of the Dutchman playing in Spain. He recalled interest from Barcelona in a 16-year-old Gravenberch, that was turned down by Fortes so he could continue to develop at Ajax.
When asked about a potential Real Madrid move, Fortes had this to say: “He’s good enough for Real Madrid. We would love for him to play for them, but Liverpool would ask for a lot of money”.
A lot of money indeed. When looking at the biggest midfield prospects, they have consistently commanded fees nearing and surpassing £100m in recent years. The likes of Moises Caicedo, Declan Rice, Enzo Fernandez and Jude Bellingham.
If Gravenberch is not of that level already—at just 22—he’s knocking on the door. With a contract running until 2028, such a move would require an irresistible offer.
Liverpool simply cannot lose Gravenberch
Gravenberch has been nothing short of phenomenal this season, becoming an integral piece of Arne Slot’s system. While rotation is a key part of Slot’s philosophy, there are some players he feels he cannot go without.
Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones have been interchangeable in the more advanced midfield roles but Gravenberch has been a near-constant presence in the spine of this impressive Liverpool side.
Liverpool have found out in recent seasons that signing a defensive midfielder to fit their needs is no easy feat. They have thrown their hat in the ring for Caicedo, Bellingham, Tchouameni and most recently Martin Zubimendi, but to no avail.
As a player with such a high ceiling, at an age where development is quick, the Reds should be looking at Gravenberch as untouchable.
