The Egyptian has ended the speculation surrounding his future at Anfield by committing his future to the Reds. Salah has signed a new two-year deal, which will keep him on Merseyside until 2027.

With his new contract signed, Salah will be setting his sights on winning the Premier League title with Liverpool this season. With just seven games remaining, the Reds are a maximum of 11 points away from being crowned champions, with the 32-year-old eyeing up more silverware beyond that.

And he’ll be looking for even more records as he continues his time at Anfield. Salah currently sits third on Liverpool’s all-time top scorers list on 243 goals, with Roger Hunt (285) and Ian Rush (346) the only players ahead of him now.

Not only will he be looking to move up the club’s list of legends, but he can also further cement his status as one of the Premier League’s all-time greats. He currently sits joint-fifth in the league’s all-time top scorers list, equal with Sergio Aguero on 184.

Andrew Cole is three goals ahead of him in fourth, with Wayne Rooney (208), Harry Kane (213) and Shearer (260) making up the top three.

Salah can certainly set his sights on overtaking Kane over the next couple of years, and Shearer isn’t ruling the Egyptian out of going on to break his record in the future.

“I don’t suspect that my Premier League goalscoring record is on Mo Salah’s mind, but the record is going to go one day and whoever it goes to, whether it’s Harry Kane, Mo Salah or Erling Haaland, I guess there’s so many ifs and buts,” Shearer told Betfair.

“It will go one day and it might be Salah who does it, yeah.”

Salah’s new deal will come as a huge boost to Arne Slot, who will also be hoping Virgil van Dijk can follow his lead soon. The Liverpool boss has been praised by Shearer for his handling of the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the pair this season.

“I don’t think that this contract situation has hindered them – I think that it’s been a topic for the manager that he’s had to handle, and he’s handled it very well, I have to say,” Shearer said.

“He’s been showered with questions, the same ones every single week and he’s been able to bat it off very professionally. I don’t think it’s impacted them on the pitch at all.

“Obviously they got knocked out of the Champions League, lost to Newcastle and were knocked out of the FA Cup within a few weeks of each other, despite going really strongly at that time.

“But they’re going to win the league, and that in itself is an incredible achievement, because not many people, if any, had Liverpool winning the title.”
