The summer transfer window isn’t a million miles away, and the main movers this summer are likely to be centre-forwards.
Alexander Isak has been linked to Liverpool, numerous clubs want to sign Liam Delap, while Benjamin Sesko has been linked to several top sides.
Viktor Gyokeres has been linked to Arsenal recently too, and according to Fabrizio Romano, there is going to be some movement on that front in the near future.
Indeed, Romano says that Gyokeres could be available at around the £55m mark this summer, claiming that the Swedish striker is definitely leaving Sporting in this next window.
Viktor Gyokeres is definitely leaving Sporting
Romano shared what he knows about the Arsenal target.
According to the journalist, Gyokeres could be available at a discounted rate this summer, noting that Manchester United and Arsenal are keen.
Meanwhile, Romano also noted that the striker is definitely leaving this summer, claiming that everyone should forget any notion that he could stay in Portugal.
“On Viktor Gyokeres guys, I was telling you he could be available for less than the release clause, and I can confirm that. He could be available between €65m (£55m) or €70m,” Romano said.
“Gyokeres, he could be an option for Manchester United still, but it’s not guaranteed or a done deal, it’s an open story for several clubs including Arsenal.
“Gyokeres will for sure be leaving Sporting this summer, forget about Gyokeres staying, the idea is to leave, the idea is to go.”
Arsenal’s signings from Portugal
Gyokeres will be leaving Sporting this summer to join a top club, adding to the growing trend of players making big moves from the Portuguese league.
Andrea Berta always liked a signing from Portugal when he was at Atletico Madrid with the likes of Nicolas Gaitan, Joao Felix, Felipe and Jan Oblak all coming from Benfica or Porto.
Arsenal have also made a few signings from Portugal over the years, and it’s fair to say that the Gunners have a patchy hit rate when making signings from that part of the world.

Fabio Vieira | Porto |
Nuno Tavares | Benfica |
Luis Boa Morte | Sporting |
Stefan Schwarz | Benfica |
Fabio Vieira was criticised often after joining Arsenal, while Nuno Tavares was also made a scapegoat after a string of poor performances for the Gunners.
Beyond that, Arsenal haven’t done much modern business with Portuguese clubs, Luis Boa Morte joined Arsenal from Sporting in the 1990s, while Stefan Schwarz is a long-forgotten signing from Benfica in the early 1990s.
Arsenal don’t have a great history of signings from the Portuguese League, and perhaps the Gunners should tread carefully here.
