Glenn Hoddle says Tottenham have a young talent in their ranks who’s going to be truly ‘frightening’

Tottenham Hotspur looked back to their best in their Europa League encounter with Eintracht Frankfurt, with Lucas Bergvall putting in an especially impressive performance.

There was concern prior to the match over how an inconsistent Tottenham side would handle a strong outfit like Frankfurt, but they ended up feeling hard done by after a 1-1 draw.

Ange Postecoglou’s charges had more than enough chances to win the game after Pedro Porro’s superb backheel cancelled out Hugo Ekitike’s early opener.

Another of the highlights as far as Tottenham are concerned was Bergvall’s performance, with fans and pundits alike singing the Swede’s praises.

Indeed, Glenn Hoddle delivered an emphatic verdict on Bergvall’s future after the quarter-final first leg at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Glenn Hoddle tips Tottenham star Lucas Bergvall for ‘frightening’ future

Hoddle, speaking on TNT Sports, noted how Bergvall has shown considerable improvement in less than one full season, saying young players can often take two seasons.

The Tottenham legend then backed Bergvall to be absolutely “frightening” as a player when he gets closer to his prime of around 23 or 24 years of age.

“For me the most important thing is he’s been thrown in, he’s had to be thrown in in half the games, but mentality-wise, he’s more than coped with it,” said Hoddle.

“And it’s just going to grow and grow. When he’s 24, what’s he going to be like?

“He’s learnt so quickly. Some people take two seasons to grow and they progress and they improve.

“He’s improved in such a quick time. So what he’s going to be like when he’s 23, 24… he’s going to be frightening.”

What Alasdair Gold has noticed about Lucas Bergvall behind the scenes

Bergvall had a tricky start to life at Tottenham, but he now looks well suited to life in English football after showing remarkable improvement.

Football.london’s Alasdair Gold recently spoke of how he’s been noticing Bergvall looking bulkier every time he sees him, suggesting he’s putting the hours in at the gym.

Speaking on Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham, Gold claimed: “He’s turning into a big lad as well, I watched the footage of the players coming out the tunnel and he is properly bulking up.

“Every time I see him he looks a little bit stronger and stronger and I know Ange said it’s because he keeps following Deki (Kulusevski) in the gym.

“But it’s impacting his play as well, he’s so much stronger on the ball. He’s going to be one of the first names on the team sheet going forward.”
