Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has reportedly agreed a contract extension with the Catalan giants until June 2027.

There were question marks when the 60-year-old arrived at Barcelona last summer, but it has been an incredible campaign to date for the German, who secured his first silverware at the club in January, lifting the Spanish Super Cup.

Barcelona are currently four points clear of second-placed Real Madrid at the top of the La Liga table, while they will face Los Blancos in the final of the Copa del Rey at the end of the month.

The Catalan team are also in an excellent spot when it comes to reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League, leading Borussia Dortmund 4-0 after the first leg of their quarter-final.

As a result, a quadruple is possible for Flick in his first season at the helm.

There has been speculation surrounding the manager’s future of late, as his current deal is due to expire in June 2026, and Barcelona are said to be determined to sign him to an extension.

According to RAC1, an extension until June 2027 has already been agreed, but it is believed that the La Liga leaders had been keen to hand him a longer-term deal due to how impressive he has been.

Flick has won 36, drawn six and lost six of his 48 games in charge of Barcelona, while the team are unbeaten in all competitions since before the winter break in Spain.

The German is no stranger to lifting major silverware, having won seven trophies during his time in charge of Bayern Munich, including a famous treble during the 2019-20 campaign.

Flick stopped short of confirming Barcelona extension on Friday

Flick was asked about a possible new deal during his press conference on Friday afternoon, as he spoke to the media to preview Saturday’s La Liga clash with Leganes.

“My answer will be rather lengthy. I really appreciate and enjoy what I have here with a magnificent staff and fantastic experts and doctors. Very professional players and they have the mentality to improve every day, it’s unique in my professional career,” he said.

“There is a fantastic atmosphere, it’s a family. All the staff at the club are amazing and it’s fantastic. I enjoy Barcelona and its people, it’s a new experience for me. I have a lot of energy and I’m thinking about what I can do to improve, but now we are starting the project.

“I am not a coach who thinks about the next three years, what I like is to work for the best club in the world and I appreciate what is here. The situation at the club is not easy, but we are all doing our best.

“That’s the situation now, I have one year left and if things go well, another one. That’s my way of thinking. Step by step, year by year. I don’t think we’re not finished, I don’t know how long we’ll have left but I want to finish my work here on a good note. Besides, my assistants are happy. We have to focus on the season because there are a lot of things to do. First Leganes and then Dortmund.”

Flick has also previously been in charge of Germany, managing the national team between July 2021 and September 2023.
