Tottenham Hotspur were held to a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final clash against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Spurs have had a terrible season. After failing to go all the way in the two domestic cups and finding themselves in a terrible position in the Premier League, the Europa League is all they’ve got left.
Ange Postecoglou named a fairly strong lineup against Frankfurt at home, but his side could only pick up a draw after Pedro Porro canceled out Hugo Ekitike’s opener.
The big worry for some Spurs fans was to see Destiny Udogie come off the pitch with an issue. Postecoglou has now shared an update on his fitness.
Ange Postecoglou explains what happened to Destiny Udogie during Tottenham vs Eintracht Frankfurt
Tottenham fans had been looking forward to the game against Eintracht Frankfurt for quite some time.
The season has not been what the supporters had hoped for, but despite all the problems, Spurs are still in with a chance of ending their trophy drought.
However, after a mistake from James Maddison, Ekitike scored a wonderful goal to give the visitors the lead, and that worried Tottenham fans.
But, Porro’s lovely flick levelled the score, and Tottenham were comfortably the better side from that point of the clash.
The biggest concern from the night was to see Udogie limping off the pitch in the second half. He was replaced by Djed Spence.
The last thing Spurs need is another injury this season, but thankfully for them, Udogie only came off because of cramp.
“Yeah, he just got cramp,” said Postecoglou in hi press conference, as per Football London.
“He was unbelievable today. I thought it was incredible the amount of running he did. His effectiveness. It was incredible. He was just cramping up. He will be fine.”
Postecoglou’s controversial Tottenham selection decision pays off
When the teams were announced on Thursday night, many Tottenham fans were surprised to see Spence not starting the game.
The Englishman has been one of Spurs’ best players this season, and almost everyone expected him to start at left-back.
But, Postecoglou made the bold decision of starting Udogie there, and that proved to be the right call.
The Italian was absolutely brilliant against Eintracht Frankfurt. He was unplayable at times and caused the German side all sorts of problems.
Some Tottenham fans even felt Udogie had his best game of the season on Thursday night. We think he has done enough to keep his place in the second leg.
