Ange Postecoglou’s future is up in the air at Tottenham right now.
Indeed, Postecoglou is under pressure at Spurs right now, but, for a long time, it’s been felt that there could well be a saving grace on the horizon for the Spurs boss.
Tottenham are still fighting in the Europa League, and, with that, comes the chance to potentially qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Many believe that Postecoglou could save his job with a Europa League win, but according to Ian Ladyman, speaking on It’s All Kicking Off, that isn’t the case necessarily.
How Daniel Levy will decide on Ange Postecoglou’s future
According to Ladyman success or failure in the Europa League this season won’t be what decides Postecoglou’s fate.
The journalist says that Daniel Levy’s mind will be made up by other factors, with the journalist noting that Spurs won’t make the same mistake as Manchester United last season when they kept Erik ten Hag on after winning the FA Cup.
“Oh, well, what I am told, what I am told, and I’m not trying to dodge the question. I suppose I’ll have to answer the question in a minute. What I’m told is that the, now that you asked me, is that the Europa League success or failure, the winner of the Europa League, of course, qualifies to the Champions League,” Ladyman said.
“So United, Man United and Tottenham both have a strong interest in that for obvious reasons. I’m told by someone at Tottenham that, no matter what happens in the Europa League, that will not be what makes Daniel Levy’s his mind up for him.”
“So it won’t be a Ten Hag situation like it was after the FA Cup, when ten Hag won the FA Cup out of nowhere against Manchester City. And all of a sudden, because they couldn’t find a replacement and because there was a bit of a groundswell of support from supporters, and because they got carried away by the glory of winning the FA Cup, Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos decided to keep ten Hag and they’ve subsequently admitted publicly that was a mistake. Don’t think Tottenham are going to do that.”
Tottenham’s remaining games analysed
A Europa League win may not be enough for Postecoglou to save his job, but if the team start performing well and winning games convincingly again, the Australian may well be able to hang on at Spurs.
Tottenham have been decimated by injuries this season let’s not forget, and while performances have been poor for a long time, there’s still this tiny remnant of hope that has carried over from those first few months of Postecoglou’s reign.
If Spurs can show that level of performance again between now and the end of the season, perhaps Postecoglou can save his job.
Of course, that’s easier said than done, and Spurs’ fixtures from now until the end of the season don’t make for pretty reading.

Liverpool, Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa and Brighton are all incredibly tough opponents on paper.
Meanwhile, Crystal Palace are one of the form sides in English football right now, while Spurs have a terrible record at the London Stadium as they prepare to face West Ham.
Wolves should be Spurs’ easiest game, but, even then, Vitor Pereira’s side have won three on the spin, so that won’t be an easy game either.
Unfortunately, it isn’t going to be easy for Postecoglou to save his skin with this run of fixtures ahead of him.
