Liverpool have some great news coming their way.
The Reds confirmed on Friday morning that Mohamed Salah has penned a new contract and will stay at the club beyond the end of this season.
Virgil van Dijk is also set to sign a new deal, and he will not be leaving Anfield in the upcoming summer transfer window either.
That gives Liverpool a massive boost, as there was a very realistic chance that their two superstars could’ve walked away for nothing.
Now, Liverpool are working on tying down another player to a new deal.
Ibrahima Konate could be the next Liverpool player to sign a new contract
Liverpool’s management of contracts has been a mess.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to join Real Madrid on a free transfer at the end of his deal in July. Van Dijk and Salah’s futures have been secured, but leaving it this late hasn’t been ideal.
Liverpool don’t want to repeat the same mistake, so they have been trying to extend Ibrahima Konate’s contract as well.
TBR Football exclusively revealed in March that Konate had rejected an offer from Liverpool. But, the Reds haven’t given up on him.
Fabrizio Romano has now claimed that negotiations are ongoing between the ‘world-class‘ Frenchman and his representatives over a new deal.
The journalist has claimed that Konate could be the ‘next’ one at Liverpool to extend his contract.
He told GiveMeSport’s newsletter: “They are in negotiations. Now, the priority was obviously Salah and Van Dijk, but the next one could be Konate as Liverpool are working on it.”
Konate has already explained why he will be key for Liverpool
When you think about Liverpool’s defence, the first name that comes to mind is usually Van Dijk.
The Dutchman has been the best centre-back in the world over the last five years, and he is one of the biggest reasons why Liverpool have been so successful.
Konate, however, has played his part too, and in a recent interview, he claimed that he is working to become even better than Van Dijk.
Konate said about Van Dijk earlier in April: “With Virgil we know how good he is, how special he is, what he’s been doing for years. He’s so good.
“Like I’ve said previously, I will be better than you one day, that’s why I work very hard everyday to achieve this.
“It’s crazy how many Man of the Match he gets this season. It’s very good to play with Virg, but sometimes people who watch the game think it’s only Virgil who plays.
“I’m not jealous, but watch the game and it will tell you the truth.“
