The Egyptian has signed a new contract at Anfield, ending months of speculation over his future after he had been due to become a free agent in the summer. The new deal sees Salah extend his stay on Merseyside to 2027, meaning he will bring up 10 years with the club if he sees out the full length of his deal.

Liverpool fans will now hope that Virgil van Dijk will follow his lead, with the Reds captain also understood to be close to a new deal having revealed “progress” had been made in talks with the club. It looks like Trent Alexander-Arnold will be heading to Real Madrid though, with the academy graduate not expected to pen new terms at Anfield.

Nevertheless, Salah’s new deal is a huge coup for Liverpool, with the 32-year-old set to win the Premier League Golden Boot this season after a stellar campaign. He has 32 goals and 22 assists in all competitions so far, including 27 in the league.

It’s been another record-breaking season for Salah, who has climbed up the list of Liverpool’s top scorers and is now sat as one of the club’s greatest players. He has moved up to third overall on 243 goals, having overtaken Gordon Hodgson (241) earlier this year.

He may well have his sights set on the next name on the list, with Salah sitting 42 goals behind second-placed Roger Hunt, who has 285 to his name. With seven games remaining this season, and another two years to come, there is every chance that Salah could move up the list.

He would have to extend his stay even further though if he is to overtake the name at the top of the list, with Ian Rush’s tally of 346 unlikely to be overhauled anytime soon.

  1. Ian Rush – 346 goals
  2. Roger Hunt – 285 goals
  3. Mohamed Salah – 243 goals
  4. Gordon Hodgson – 241 goals
  5. Bill Liddell – 228 goals
  6. Steven Gerrard – 186 goals
  7. Robbie Fowler – 183 goals
  8. Kenny Dalglish – 172 goals
  9. Michael Owen – 158 goals
  10. Harry Chambers – 151 goals

Salah will also have his eyes on moving up the list of all-time scorers in the Premier League. He currently sits level with Sergio Aguero in fifth on 184 goals, with Andrew Cole just three ahead of him on the list.

Moving into the top three, Wayne Rooney is next on the list on 208 goals, with Harry Kane second on 213 – both will now be firmly in Salah’s sights. Alan Shearer remains top of the pile on 260, meaning Salah may need to extend his stay further to claim that record.

“Of course I’m very excited,” Salah said upon signing his new contract. “We have a great team now. Before also we had a great team. But I signed because I think we have a chance to win other trophies and enjoy my football.

“It’s great, I had my best years here. I played eight years, hopefully it’s going to be 10. Enjoying my life here, enjoying my football. I had the best years in my career.

“I would like to say to [the fans], I am very, very happy to be here. I signed here because I believe we can win a lot of big trophies together. Keep supporting us and we’ll give it our best, and hopefully in the future we’re going to win more trophies.”
