Defenders are set to be highly sought after by Premier League clubs this summer, and Huijsen has made a name for himself as one of the top flight’s best young defenders.

As such, the Bournemouth centre-back and Spain international has emerged as a target for some of the division’s biggest clubs.

Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Newcastle and Tottenham are all likely to bolster their ranks in the summer transfer window as they look to enjoy more successful seasons next term.

David Ornstein has how shared an update involving all the aforementioned Premier League clubs and Huijsen that has taken place in the past week.

Ornstein hosted his latest Q&A on The Athletic on Thursday, with fans asking him a variety of questions about the goings-on at clubs in England and elsewhere.

A Liverpool fan asked Ornstein about whether he knew the names of any defenders on the Reds’ radar, and he spoke at length about Huijsen.

Ornstein revealed that Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Newcastle and Tottenham have all spoken to Huijsen’s camp in the last week.

“I now understand that Liverpool are among the clubs with a firm interest in Dean Huijsen,” wrote Ornstein. “This has been reported elsewhere and is accurate.

“Chelsea have enquired and Arsenal are in the mix, too. At the moment those are perhaps the three leading contenders but not the only ones, with Newcastle and Tottenham also keen.

“I believe they have all held meetings or conversations with Huijsen’s camp in the last week but I’m not aware of offers being made just yet, so the direction of travel remains unclear.

“It has been well documented that Real Madrid held great appeal for Huijsen growing up and they do like him, but I don’t know of them actively working on it.

“Therefore – at the time of writing – it looks most probable he will join another Premier League club.

“I think there’s a desire on the part of Bournemouth and the player to have this situation decided asap.

“The £50million release clause makes it a clean and potentially quick deal to do, which we’ve seen Liverpool capitalise on in the past.”

What people close to Dean Huijsen have said about his potential

According to Mark Douglas, people close to Huijsen believe he could become the best centre-back in the world in the coming years.

“He is going to be, I think, top, top class,” Douglas told The Redmen TV podcast last month.

“You know, people are already saying, people around him, people who have watched him play think he’s going to be one of, if not the best centre-back in the world in the coming years. He’s 19 years of age.

“I mean, technically, he’s absolutely already there. Physically, obviously, a year in the Premier League has really kind of given him that kind of…

“You know, I don’t think any scouts have any worries about his physical presence now. They sort of feel that I think he can play in that league.”
