The Premier League champions are likely to bolster their squad ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Manchester City are reportedly ready to open talks with a huge European club about signing two of their players this summer.

City have performed well below their usually exceptional standards this season and will still have work to do if they are to secure a Champions League spot this season – they also have an FA Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest to keep them interested in an otherwise dull campaign.

In January, Pep Guardiola welcomed three new signings to the club with Abdukodir Khusanov, Omar Marmoush and Nico Gonzalez all joining.

And the City head coach may look to further bolster his options come this summer, with Kevin De Bruyne set to leave the club upon the expiration of his contract in June.

The future of Kyle Walker – currently on loan at AC Milan – is also uncertain with Ilkay Gundogan’s contract also nearing its end – although there is an option to extend for a further year.

So, new signings will likely be required – but who could arrive at the Etihad?

As reported, by TEAMtalk, City are supposedly plotting a double signing of the Milan duo Tijjani Reijnders and Theo Hernandez with Guardiola, 54, keen to add the midfielder and the left-back to his squad.

The report claims that the Serie A side is under pressure to generate funds this summer as it looks increasingly likely that they will miss out on next year’s Champions League with the team currently ninth in Italy’s top division.

It is thought that the Rossoneri value Reijnders, 26, at around £61m with Hernandez, 27, at £26m.

The younger of the pair is contracted to Milan until the summer of 2030 while Hernandez’s current deal is set to expire in June 2026.

Pep Guardiola on summer transfers

Guardiola gave his thoughts on City’s potential approach to business this summer during a press conference on Friday (11 April).

“I don’t know what will happen,” said Guardiola. “Of course, the club is working but we won’t have 45 players in the squad, it’s not sustainable for the emotion of the team. Except Kevin [De Bruyne], they all have a contract and we will see how they behave and how we are. We’re going to see.”
