Manchester United are set to join the race for a £60 million-rated goalkeeper to replace Andre Onana following his performance against Lyon.
Onana produced two costly mistakes as Man United drew 2-2 with Lyon in Thursday’s Europa League tie.
He failed to keep out Thiago Almada’s free-kick in the first-half before making a mistake to allow Rayan Cherki to score a dramatic goal in second-half stoppage time.
Cherki rubbed salt into Onana’s wounds by aiming a dig, becoming the second Lyon player to taunt him following Nemanja Matic’s pre-match comments.
Onana, who cost Man United £47 million in the summer of 2023, has largely failed to impress since his signing.
There has been speculation that he could be replaced by Ruben Amorim when the transfer window reopens this summer.
And, according to Italian outlet Gazetta dello Sport, the wheels are in motion for Man United to replace Onana.
Per the report, Man United are keeping tabs on Brighton’s Bart Verbruggen as a potential replacement.
The club have already reached out to Brighton to discuss Verbruggen’s availability.
The Dutch international is contracted until June 2028 and Brighton are seeking for a fee in the region of £60 million, having paid Anderlecht £17 million for his services in 2023.
Verbruggen is also attracting interest from Bayern Munich, who are on the hunt for a new goalkeeper, too. AC Milan are also keen on the 22-year-old.
He has made 50 Premier League appearances for Brighton, including 29 games this season.

Onana has come under fire for his performances since moving to Man United.
His showing against Lyon last night garnered more negative reaction as Paul Scholes believes the Cameroon international ‘hasn’t been quite good enough’.
Asked whether Man United should replace Onana this summer, Scholes replied: “Yeah, I think it’s something they need to think about.
“But they need to look at the budget as well. Can you get away with not spending that money on a goalkeeper?
“He hasn’t been quite good enough but it will come down to money and what Amorim has got to spend.”
He added: “We’ve seen this goalkeeper do well at Inter Milan as well. But I don’t think his distribution has been great either, and that’s one of the reasons he was brought in.
“But can you almost get away with not spending another £40m on a goalkeeper? I don’t know. Ruben Amorim has a lot of problems to solve.”
