Manchester United have reportedly been in touch with Brighton & Hove Albion to discuss a possible move for Dutch goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen during this summer’s transfer window.
Verbruggen, 22, has been with Brighton since 2023, making the move from Anderlecht, and he has represented the Seagulls on 60 occasions in all competitions, including 50 outings in the Premier League.
The Netherlands international has again been a strong performer for Brighton this season, making 33 appearances in all competitions, and he is regarded as one of the best young stoppers in European football.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Man United have been in contact with Brighton to ask for information on the goalkeeper, with the Red Devils said to be giving serious consideration to signing a new number one.
There has been fresh speculation surrounding Andre Onana‘s future following the Cameroonian’s disappointing showing against Lyon in the Europa League on Thursday night.

Man United ‘contact Brighton to discuss Verbruggen’
Onana made two mistakes in his side’s 2-2 draw, with Man United being denied what would have been an excellent victory in the first leg of their quarter-final.
The 29-year-old has struggled to impress since his arrival from Inter Milan in the summer of 2023, while he has only kept 10 clean sheets in 43 appearances in all competitions during the 2024-25 campaign.
Red Devils head coach Ruben Amorim is believed to be giving serious consideration to dropping Onana for Sunday’s Premier League clash against Newcastle United, with Altay Bayindir potentially being introduced into the XI.
Bayindir has never played in the Premier League, but if he is selected, a strong performance from the Turkey international may lead to him also starting next week’s quarter-final second leg against Lyon.

Would Verbruggen be a good signing for Man United?
Man United need a dependable presence between the sticks, as Onana has simply cost them on too many occasions.
There will not be a shortage of interest in the Cameroonian, who was excellent for Inter Milan ahead of his arrival at Old Trafford, but it just has not happened for the goalkeeper at Old Trafford.
Verbruggen is regarded as one of the best up-and-coming stoppers in the world of football, proving himself since arriving in the Premier League, while he is Netherlands’ number one, already making 20 appearances for his country.
Bayern Munich and Chelsea are also believed to be keeping a close eye on his performances this season, and it would not be a surprise if he made the move to an elite club during this summer’s transfer window.
