Wolves striker Matheus Cunha, who has been linked with a move to Liverpool, has dismissed rumors sparked by a supposed message about his future on Instagram. Despite signing a new contract earlier this year, Cunha has been at the center of transfer speculation, with Anfield being one of the potential destinations mentioned for the summer.
The Brazilian has shone for Wolves this season and is believed to have an $82 million release clause in his latest deal.
Social media speculation went into overdrive when a Wolves fan account, talkingwolves, shared a screenshot claiming Cunha had posted an Instagram story saying: “Time to be happy, I will follow my dreams, not yours… So stay cool.” The fan account’s caption suggested the story had been deleted, stating: “Deleted Instagram story from Matheus Cunha earlier today.”
Cunha himself jumped into the comments to set the record straight. He initially responded with a humorous “HAHHAHAHAHA” before doubling down in the replies on Instagram.
“Do you know what you want?” he contested in the comments section of the fan account’s post. “For people to not like me here. Unfortunately I’m going to the field to solve the problem of your favorite club. I’m not here looking for alternatives to be someone important. Fans root for their own, they don’t create misfortunes all the time.”
Cunha has been vocal recently, and just last month, he expressed his ambitions in an interview, stating his desire to progress in his career.

“I had a lot of offers but I wouldn’t feel well if I had done it,” the Brazil international disclosed. “Some things you can’t control but I couldn’t leave the club in the middle of the season, in a difficult situation, in the relegation zone.
“Now, we’re close to achieving our goal [of staying up]. But I’ve made it clear that I need to take the next step. I want to fight for titles, for big things. I have potential.”
Following this, Cunha shared a snapshot on social media from pre-match training ahead of Wolves’ Premier League fixture against Tottenham, captioned: “So happy to be back tomorrow.”
The striker is poised for a comeback after completing a four-match suspension, which was imposed following a straight red card in the FA Cup fifth-round tie against Bournemouth.
