Aston Villa clashed heads with Southampton at the St. Mary’s Stadium earlier today as they hoped to secure a good result on the road in the Premier League. The Villans made a solid start to the game but were held to a scoreless draw at the half-time break.

Ollie Watkins finally broke the deadlock for the West Midlands club in the 73rd minute before Donyell Malen got his name on the scoresheet just six minutes later. John McGinn added another goal in injury-time as the contest finished with Unai Emery’s men earning an impressive 3-0 win away from home.

Let’s take a look at how each Aston Villa player fared during the clash against the Saints.

GK: Emiliano Martinez – 7/10

Martinez made a couple of solid saves at the back and secured an important clean sheet this afternoon.

RB: Matty Cash – 7/10

He performed his defensive duties well and was accurate with his passing.

CB: Ezri Konsa – 7.5/10

Konsa gave a good account of himself on the defensive third of the pitch and made two decent chances going forward.

CB: Tyrone Mings – 7/10

He kept things solid when defending inside his half and did enough to keep a clean sheet.

CM: Amadou Onana – 8/10

He anchored the midfield with conviction and was good on the ball.

CM: Youri Tielemans – 8/10

Tielemans managed to engineer some inviting chances for others around him and ended the game with an assist to his name.

RW: Morgan Rogers – 7/10

He caught the eye at times on the right flank and did well to secure an assist today.

CAM: Marco Asensio – 5/10

Asensio failed to convert both his penalties in what was a disappointing outing for him.

Ramsey caused some headaches for his marker and was replaced after the hour mark.

He caused a few problems for the Southampton defenders but there was no goal for him.
