Can Manuel Neuer’s understudy help keep Die Werkself in contention?
Bayern Munich’s forever on loan man, goalkeeper Alexander Nübel, could have an option to find a permanent home soon.
The interested party? Bayern’s Bundesliga rivals, Bayer 04 Leverkusen. It is just a dream for now but if there is interest on both sides a move could well materialize. From Sky Sport DE journalist Florian Plettenberg, as captured by @iMiaSanMia:
Bayer Leverkusen are interested in Alexander Nübel. Both the goalkeeper and FC Bayern are aware of the interest. Nevertheless it’s not concrete as of now [@Plettigoal]
Nübel has spent the past two seasons on loan at VfB Stuttgart (and the prior two in France’s Ligue 1 with AS Monaco), a stay that for now is set to continue. However, Stuttgart would likely have trouble absorbing all of Nübel’s salary — subsidized at present by Bayern — complicating prospects of a permanent transfer.
Leverkusen don’t have the financial pull of Bayern either, but should have more muscle than Stuttgart. Lukas Hradecky is 35 and 24-year-old Matěj Kovář may not be the answer. Nübel, on the other hand, is a German men’s national team player and a fitting man for any Bundesliga contender.
Let’s see if this interest solidifies…
